Hey ghost - thanks for another entertaining post (and for the namecheck - appreciate it). Love the way you provoke with a smile on your face so no one is quite sure if you really really mean it or not.

I don't think there's any real danger of the forum falling apart even if every once in a while we mouth off at each other. It's because we're all such a bunch of opinionated bastards who just love to share those opinions whether anyone else likes it or not that things flare up now and then. But it's all pretty much self-regulating, Dire growls, you get snarky, Cliff makes a disparaging remark, SDH delivers the verbal cuff and call to order - and hey everything's peachy again. We're all pretty good at standing our ground, but we're quite good at backing down and apologising from time to time too.

Must say I was a bit concerned for a time that certain members would take themselves off to SDH's chatroom and leave the forum to the scapegraces and urchins. But it didn't really happen that way.

Anyway - here's a token Dead question to appease the Grateful Gestapo. Could you point me towards a fine Mr Charlie? I have a notion to listen! Thank you!

Just re-read your post. Thinking that any of my actions might end up leaving the forum, as you say, the refuge of scapegraces (?) and urchins cuts me to the quick. As I said when I first opened up the room, if I saw that it was drawing people away from here permanently, I was going to shut it down except for groks. But, as you said, people have used it as I hoped they would and kept the majority of their thoughts here for the rest of us to either enjoy, or be terrified of and collect our children off the streets quickly.

Dang! Nearly missed this one. SDH - I didn't mean to imply that any exodus away from the forum would have been your fault. I was only saying that, just for a short while, I was concerned that it would get a lot quieter around here. As it turns out my fears were groundless. Seems to me the chatroom probably gets most use while I'm in a drunken stupor under the bed anyway.

scapegrace: a reckless and unprincipled reprobate.

Plenty of those to go round, eh?

I always like the Mr. Charlie from the Hollywood Palladium 8/5/71. Short, but powerful. The one from the next night is quite good as well. Or, if your feeling Eurocentric, the 5/26/72 is also a good listen.

All of the above. I think in the early stages they had a few lyrics issues.

Thank you!

That 8/5/71 Charlie just plain rips! Love the garage band guitar sound. Think I'm going to have to give this show some attention.

Amazing quality Aud source given the time. Both shows are must haves.

Trivia: The venue was the same where the final concert scene from The Blues Brothers was filmed (you know, where John Candy orders 3 orange whips).

Paris--may 3 or 4 1972 might do it.

For the record, my fiestiness in (generally) a front just as it was for Pig!

I agree that any forum--being a place of ideas and debate--will get shall we say energetic. That's a good thing. Anyone who has been here a while knows the personalities and knows they are not trying to be malicious. Some of the inside jokes don't make sense to us outsiders--but we aren't involved in those jokes. (Does Dire really have a cow fetish? Does he go into Chick-Fil-A and shout, drunkenly, "Screw you guys, I wanna eat some cow"?)

I just recall that one instance--about a day's worth--when things heated up too far and feelings did get hurt and the board really got mellow after that.

Maybe what I'm tying to say is that this is a great place to visit--again and again.

Thanks for that!

i'm still trying to get over the huge strawberry blonde cow that escaped the farm about 20 minutes north of me and led the police on a 5 mile chase before it was caught the other day.

i SWEAR it was coming to visit me!!! I mooooooood out my window til i almost passed out..... but to no avail :(
